Neighborhood Affordability Datasets: The Inquiry

I have reviewed and analyzed neighborhood data from a variety of angles. The lessons I have documented along the way have led to tweaks, revisions, and re-imaginings of presenting high-quality data that is relevant to the mission of expanding housing opportunities. One critical angle of vision into housing realities centers on households and the neighborhoods they can afford. Knowing that households in all of their diversity are situated at different income levels, the focus of this line of inquiry is which neighborhoods are affordable to households who share income characteristics.

An additional concern is using available data to get a clear picture of the social dynamics and conditions that prevail in the neighborhoods that different income groups can afford. This requires gaining a foundational understanding of how neighborhoods are stratified within a metropolitan area. From there, a capable analyst can register the social and economic realities that shape the lives of households residing in distinct neighborhoods. The experience for patrons with datasets-in-hand will be a clear grasp of households in income groups neighborhood affordability, neighborhood stratification dynamics, and robust neighborhood-by-neighborhood social and economic details.

I’m bringing a workshop mentality into this endeavor. The goal is building an experience that marries rigor with relevance. If you would like to stay informed as we build, be sure to sign up below.
